If you are keen on appealing into AJ via choir, then head down to

ANDERSON JUNIOR COLLEGE (near Yio Chu Kang MRT station, opposite presbytarian high school), on 11th January 2012. Our open house starts at 11 am; if you wish to register for appeal, make your way to the school hall and look for the choir booth! It is also possible to have your appeal audition on the 11th itself, so be prepared (:

The choir will be performing in the hall at 12pm, and in the canteen at 2pm, so do come down to watch us to get a taste of what AJCHOIR does! :D

Hello choir and friends! The months of April and May have been hectic yet fruitful for all members and teachers, with the preparation of SYF on 4 May and Limelight 2011 at Esplanade on 10 May.

We are proud to announce that the Anderson Junior College Choir has attained a Gold with Honours award in the Singapore Central Youth Judging 2011!
We would like to thank all school staff and friends, who have been encouraging us on this journey and giving us your support.

Also, as of 25 May 2011, a new executive committee and music committee has been selected, and will be leading the 2011-2012 choir :)

Details for Saturday's exchange are as follows:

Some of us seniors are meeting at 8am at Bedok interchange for breakfast, and we'll leave for Siglap South CC at 9am, sharp. Practice at Siglap South CC will start at 9.30am. You'll be informed of subsequent plans for the day there.
SMS YOUR SLs IF YOU ARE JOINING US FOR BREAKFAST.
Dress code: home clothes and covered shoes
Bring enough money for lunch, bring your water bottle, and scores just in case.

Directions to Siglap South CC:

Take 16 at Bedok Interchange, get off the bus when you see Esso Mobil after 4 stops. Or you can join us for breakfast. Or you can take taxi(but remember it's SIGLAP SOUTH CC).

K, in other news, choir camp is on 17 and 18 March, which is a Thursday and a Friday. Seniors are free to join us! To all members who haven't handed in your consent forms, please do so by tomorrow.

Beach bonding is A WEEK AWAY, 14 December 2010! Get ready for a day of fun and games and much bonding! Here are the details of the event:

0930-1000: Meet at monorail station (Vivo City)
1000-1030: Travel to destination!
1030-1400: Games!
1400-1530 Lunch + Free and easy
Rest of the time will be up to you to decide :)

Things to bring:
- Enough water to keep hydrated (1.5 litres)*
- Spare set of clothing**
- Sunblock/tan lotion
- Sunglasses
- Enough money for snacks/drinks/breakfast/dinner*
- Your own titbits*
- Bathroom necessities*
*For your own good
Lunch will be very very VERY simple. Bring extra if you want!
**Compulsory: You’re at the beach, and yes, there’ll be wet games!

Be reminded of the SYF Set Piece Workshop we'll be having this Saturday with VJ, MJ and SA - from 10am to the late afternoon. Do NOT be late.

1) Farewell Assembly

Auditions will be held on Wednesday, 18 August. All J1 choir members please report to the choir room by 2:45pm, auditions will probably be around 3:00pm to 3:30pm. DO NOT BE LATE(<- remember our fines? 8D). Absentees have to present an MC to Nica, and parents' letters will not be accepted.

2) Choir collar pin

Please send your designs to James at nightverine@hotmail.com or give him a hard copy of your designs personally by Friday, 20 August. No late entries will be accepted. If there isn't a nice enough design, we'll stick to the crest on our choir tee. Please submit your design in colour, no black and white designs will be accepted.

Recent updates

AJChoir took part in V Festa Choralis, held from 26 to 30 June in Bratislava, Slovakia. We are proud to announce that we have emerged Category Champions in the Mixed Youth category and the Sacred Music category, with 99/100 and 100/100 respectively. No Importa la Distancia :)

Also, the new batch of J1 choristers have been elected into the music committee as well as the executive committee.

The Vocal Consort

"Mosaic of Songs"
The Vocal Consort is an award-winning semi-professional choir in Singapore, under the baton of acclaimed conductor, Mr Nelson Kwei. They will be presenting their upcoming concert in June, the "Mosaic of Songs" - a concert of diverse musical elements through time, space and imagination.

Their chamber mixed chorus will begin by tracing back to the early music with a Gregorian chant and bringing audience through a journey in time till 19th century. From a lively jazz adaptation of J S Bach to a fine display of Palestrina's signature polyphony music, as well as the sweet and delicate music of Mozart. Thereafter, their male chorus will present contemporary choral works from around the world, featuring music of Miklos Kocsar and Makiko Kinoshita.

VoyAJe: Our Yesterdays

AJChoir will be having our concert, VoyAJe: Our Yesterdays on 26th April, 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at $16 and $21, inclusive of Sistic Charges.

In VoyAJe 2010: Our Yesterdays, the choir will showcase its mastery and dexterity through a diverse repertoire consisting of sacred choral works of the talented German composer Ralph Hoffman, Lester Delgado and many more. Travel back in time as the choir presents a selection of classic jazz pieces including “Tea for Two” as well as “Autumn Leaves” from the 1920s arranged by talented composers David Blackwell and Andrew Carter. Another highlight of the concert is a medley of pieces from one of Broadway’s earliest and well-loved musicals, the “West Side Story”.

here is important news again.

EVERYONE IS TO DRAFT A SEPT HOLIDAY TIME TABLE, (similar to the one in june) and sent to to the teachers + jenna.

It is merely a guideline, you can customize it. But you must retain the basic structure and also the portion where you have to a) judge the effectiveness of the day's work and b) signature in acknowledgement. You will plan your timetable and a) send jenna and the teachers a softcopy and b) print out hardcopies that you would use to track your progress and sign at the end of each day. timetables are to be done up LATEST Tuesday, 26th August 2359hrs. If not, you all will have to stay back on wednesday with jenna to do it.

Hey choristers!
As of this very day, we'll be posting up reflections of our conduct and behaviour during practices! This serves as a platform for us to reflect upon our actions for every practice and pinpoint what went wrong exactly. Let us improve and progress together!

Monday 18/8/08
Being Conscious

The problems which occurred on Monday boils down to the lack of consciousness to events happening around us, and as a result, it leads to the downward spiral of respect that we have for one another, as you might have already noticed during the practice.

Our behaviour at the start of prac was unacceptable. Mr Kwei was early, but even so, when the clock turned 530, everyone was still sitting around and chatting in small little groups here and there. We are not suppose to let Mr Kwei wait, our time with him during prac is precious, we cannot emphasize that any further. For subsequent pracs, please get into position ASAP when you have arrived.

There're still people talking during the prac while other sections are singing. At one point, we were talking even when Mr Kwei was giving his comments. These comments are for us, it benefits no one but us, ajchoir batch 0809, so there's no reason why we should not be listening while Mr Kwei is speaking.

At the end of prac, we were supposed to bring our costumes for checking. Unfortunately, about 3/4 of us didn't bring it. People, please be more aware of the things going on around us. Jenna told us specifically last Thursday that we are having a costume check on Monday and some people said that they didn't hear it. Obviously, we were doing something else while she was speaking. We are responsible for our actions, we don't have to trouble others to remind us constantly.

Sincerely hope that we'll work on these points together and improve on them the next prac.

IMPORTANT.
message from mr toh:

In accordance to my announcement last Wednesday, I am requesting for a June Holidays Revision Timetable from all of you, both JC1 and JC2.
I have attached a template for your reference.
It is merely a guideline, you can customize it.
But you must retain the basic structure and also the portion where you have to

I expect to receive your timetable via email LATEST Monday, 26th May 2359hrs.
I will personally call you up to REMIND you, and you wouldn't want to talk to me if your excuse is likely to be "I've forgotten, I'm sorry I don't have access to a computer (you can come to school to use the computers in the lab), I did not receive the sms, I don't know what the blog's address is, or similar etc"

Exercise discipline and you'd benefit much from this break. Allocative and productive efficiency will ensure that you get to use your time well for revision.

But don't forget to slot in SOME time for leisure and quality time for your family, friends, sports and games.
I hope you guys have a fruitful and fulfiling 4 weeks ahead. Rock on.

Tutorial To Caricature

To start, go to this following link

Then scroll to select the body template
only select 4th Grader's Template
1) Use to scroll
2) "Select" to proceed on

Select your appropriate skin tone.
1) Use to scroll
2) "Select" to proceed on

Now is to customize your own character's dressing
Note: Only adjust for the clothings and accessories.
1) Select to customize - Top, bottom, accessory
2) Customize your clothings colour
3) Once satisfied with your looks, click "finish" to proceed
Note: 4) avoid using unless u are very sure of the size printed is correct

Save your little character as a .JPG/.JPEG format into your computer

So now your character's body should be done.

We are going to have to resize your character to the appropriate size
Start off by opening your character .JPG/.JPEG into microsoft paint
Note: Right-click on the picture file and simply click edit)
Next. Use the 'Cut' tool to cut out the character.
Once u have the character in the box area, copy it... *Ctrl+C

Now, we need to resize the image.
i'm using Microsoft words cause it's the most accessible software everyone has
Go ahead to use any softwares if need be.

Using the ruler on the sides of microsoft words (in inches)
resize your character, for:
Breadth: 1.5" to 2"
Height: 2.5" to 3"
Just as long your character size are within/close these range.
Note: Please ensure enough leeway for Height, putting in account your big heads

The final product should be for example, this prototype of Mr. Toh
However, you can simply print the character (after resizing) first.
Then print and cut your face seperately (preferbly unglam & no passport photo)
Then paste ur face over the cartoon's face

Just as long it looks something liddat.
Please try to create your own caricature to represent you.
And print them and cut.
Looking forward to see the varieties you guys can all produce!

hahaha okay technically I'm not supposed to be blogging here anymore, but here's a quick advert.

I was tasked by our dear seniors (now j4 haha) to promote the AJ Alumni concert! For very obvious reasons; Because they're performing. yay. hahaha But I'm sure it'll be a great performance! So do think about it!

Details are as follows:
Venue: AJC Auditorium
A home-coming cultural performance specially put up by the AJC Alumni Association. This special event involves 90 ex-AJCians and current AJCians, coming from the Alumni Chinese Orchestra, Alumni CLDDS, Alumni Choir, Alumni Dance, Alumni Guitar and AJ Idol'07. Catch this opportunity to witness the Alumni's tribute to the college.

Shows: There are 2 shows, Matinee and Evening. (The concert lasts for 2 hrs) All tickets are sold at $10 each. However, the tickets are now available @ $5 each for AJC students only if you book through Schoolbuzz! There are limited tickets for this special offer, so grab the tickets fast! Be early when you attend the shows, there are early birds' goodie bags waiting for you.

Hi guys! I hope you're all enjoying your break. This goes out also to the few of us singing for National Day performance too lol. but really, thanks big bunches for those who agreed to help out on that!

Sad to say, Ms Yiak is unable to excuse the whole choir from the AJ Race, therefore there would only be the comm+a few more of us singing for the NDP performance :(

Just to keep u guys informed, there will be quite a lot of stuffs to do for the next few months or so. Okay these are the dates and a very brief description of what we're going to do :)

Ok I'm totally in the mood to blog and it'll probably end up being a lengthy entry so skip certain parts whenever you reckon I'm switching into my longwinded crapping mood. (like now) lol Seriously no adjective or number of words can express just how proud I am to be in ajchoir. Especially to be in this 2006/2007 batch. I really couldn't ask for more. To be the president of such a hyper sunshine choir really is an honour. Because you guys make the choir and me and I can't ever thank everyone enough for making this journey more than a memory. It's one I'll kill for to relive again.

To others, these are the events that ajchoir 2007 went through:

To me this was what happened:
1. Camp was the time where...

... the 06 batch went insane with the 07 batch (we weren't just seniors interacting with juniors. it was friends stinking up the choir room tgt :) Enjoying ourselves with silly games and crazy night walks. (I swear, scary ppl silly IS fun =X esp some of the guys XP)

2. VoyAJe: A New Journey Begins...

... although initially filled with worries and pressure everyone worked hard to pull everything together. kimono wearing never felt better. *runs around rushing from room to stage ahhh*

3. College Day...

... where at first we thought was a waste of time till we saw the value of every single performance we stage. It's not the event that determines the performance. It's the love we have for it. Also the time where you have people going crazy and doing silly poses for the cam XP

4. SYF 2007...

... was the time we truely displayed our GOLD with honours spirit. Coz all that glitters is not just a gwh. Though all were disappointed at first, i'm very proud that everyone saw the true meaning of it all and enjoyed the process.

5. tpjc concert...

... was the day when colin became the biggest joker. Not bad for no. 17 =X
But it is also where it all ends for the 06batch; all too fast too soon.
But we loved every moment of it.

Kudos to EVERYONE for making 2007 a magical year for ajchoir.

WE LOVE ALL OUR J1s THAT HAVE JOINED US! the more the merrier. :D

Ohmy time sure flies. Now before you know it, it's 2007, we're j2s, syf is in about 4 mths, prelims are in about 8months and we have so many new and wonderful members in the ajchoir family! :)

ahhhh hectic, maniacal but loving it. hahahaa

anyway, just a simple welcome to all our dear j1s! Sorry that it'll take time before all the j2s will get to know you guys. What's more, sorry we have yet to have a proper orientation. But no worries! Watch out for the Choir Camp in March and I'm sure you'll feel much more integrated with the other sections! For now just start to warm yourself up to each other first! :)

THE YOUNG PERSON'S GUIDE TO THE CHORUS

In any chorus, there are four voice parts: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass.
Sometimes these are divided into first and second within each part,
prompting endless jokes about first and second basses.
There are also various other parts such as baritone, countertenor, contralto, mezzo
soprano, etc.,
but these are mostly used by people who are either
soloists, or belong to some excessively hotshot classical a cappella group (this
applies especially to countertenors), or are trying to make excuses for
not really fitting into any of the regular voice parts, so we will ignore them
for now.

Each voice part sings in a different range, and each one has a very
different personality.
You may ask, "Why should singing different notes
make people act differently?",
and indeed this is a mysterious question
and has not been adequately studied,
especially since scientists who study
musicians tend to be musicians themselves and have all the peculiar
complexes that go with being tenors,
french horn players, timpanists, or
whatever.
However, this is beside the point; the fact remains that the
four voice parts can be easily distinguished,
and I will now explain how.

THE SOPRANOS are the ones who sing the highest,
and because of this they think they rule the world.
They have longer hair, fancier jewellery, and
swishier skirts than anyone else, and they consider themselves insulted if
they are not allowed to go at least to a high F in every movement of any
given piece.
When they reach the high notes, they hold them for at least
half again as long as the composer and/or conductor requires,
and then complain that their throats are killing them and that the composer and
conductor are sadists.
Sopranos have varied attitudes toward the other
sections of the chorus, though they consider all of them inferior.

Altos are to sopranos rather like second violins to first violins - nice to
harmonise with, but not really necessary.
All sopranos have a secret feeling that the altos could drop out and the piece would sound
essentially the same, and they don't understand why anybody would sing in that range
in the first place - it's so boring.

Tenors, on the other hand, can be very
nice to have around; besides their flirtation possibilities (it is a
well-known fact that sopranos never flirt with basses), sopranos like to
sing duets with tenors because all the tenors are doing is working very
hard to sing in a low-to-medium soprano range, while the sopranos are up there
in the stratosphere showing off.

To sopranos, basses are the scum of the
earth - they sing too damn loud, are useless to tune because they're down
in that low, low range - and there has to be something wrong with anyone who
sings in the F clef, anyway.

THE ALTOS are the salt of the earth - in their opinion, at least. Altos
are unassuming people, who would wear jeans to concerts if they were allowed
to.
Altos are in a unique position in the chorus in that they are unable to
complain about having to sing either very high or very low, and they know
that all the other sections think their parts are pitifully easy. But the
altos know otherwise.

They know that while the sopranos are screeching
away on a high A, they are being forced to sing elaborate passages full of
sharps and flats and tricks of rhythm, and nobody is noticing because the
sopranos are singing too loud (and the basses usually are too). Altos get a deep,
secret pleasure out of conspiring together to tune the sopranos flat.

Altos have an innate distrust of tenors, because the tenors sing in almost the
same range and think they sound better.

They like the basses, and enjoy
singing duets with them - the basses just sound like a rumble anyway, and
it's the only time the altos can really be heard. Altos' other complaint
is that there are always too many of them and so they never get to sing
really loud.

THE TENORS are spoiled. That's all there is to it. For one thing, there
are never enough of them, and choir directors would rather sell their
souls than let a halfway decent tenor quit, while they're always ready to unload
a few altos at half price. And then, for some reason, the few tenors are
always really good - it's one of those annoying facts of life. So it's no
wonder that tenors always get swollen heads - after all, who else can make
sopranos swoon? The one thing that can make tenors insecure is the
accusation (usually by the basses) that anyone singing that high couldn't
possibly be a real man.. In their usual perverse fashion, the tenors never
acknowledge this, but just complain louder about the composer being a
sadist and making them sing so damn high.

Tenors have a love-hate relationship
with the conductor, too, because the conductor is always telling them to
sing louder because there are so few of them. No conductor in recorded
history has ever asked for less tenor in a forte passage. Tenors feel
threatened in some way by all the other sections -
the sopranos because
they can hit those incredibly high notes;
the altos because they have no
trouble singing the notes the tenors kill themselves for;
and the basses because,
although they can't sing anything above an E, they sing it loud enough to
drown the tenors out. Of course, the tenors would rather die than admit
any of this. It is a little-known fact that tenors move their eyebrows more
than anyone else while singing.

THE BASSES sing the lowest of anybody.
This basically explains everything.
They are stolid, dependable people, and have more facial hair than anybody
else. The basses feel perpetually unappreciated, but they have a deep
conviction that they are actually the most important part (a view endorsed
by musicologists, but certainly not by sopranos or tenors), despite the
fact that they have the most boring part of anybody and often sing the same
note(or in endless fifths) for an entire page. They compensate for this by
singing as loudly as they can get away with - most basses are tuba players
at heart.

Basses are the only section that can regularly complain about how
low their part is, and they make horrible faces when trying to hit very low
notes. Basses are charitable people, but their charity does not extend so
far as tenors, whom they consider effete poseurs.

Basses hate tuning the tenors more than almost anything else. Basses like altos - except when they have duets and the altos get the good part. As for the sopranos, they are
simply in an alternate universe which the basses don't understand at all.

They can't imagine why anybody would ever want to sing that high and sound
that bad when they make mistakes. When a bass makes a mistake, the other
three parts will cover him, and he can continue on his merry way, knowing
that sometime, somehow, he will end up at the root of the chord.

First things first, GREAT JOB EVERYONE! WE SURVIVED THE SCO PERFORMANCE! :D

(no more waiting for hours, no more standing for even more, no more hurting arms and legs and no more sleeping through songs. XP but we all enjoyed the music quite abit yar? I don't know bout you, but I loved the 2nd movement of Om Mani)

Now it's time for carolling!

Alright, we made it through our first 4 Seasons Carolling, thanks a bunch to our seniors who came down to support us! We really appreciate it! :D

Now everyone should have the dates for the rest of the sessions. But I'll put up the esact instrcutions and performance areas of the Changi Airport carolling for all to see:

1. PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR NRIC. you'll get thrown out if you don't. and i mean literally.

2. Remember this coming Mon. (18th Dec) we're meeting earlier at 2pm to polish up our carols then prep for future sessions. Which means even if you're not involved in Changi carolling u'll still need to join us for practice.

3. Bring your carol file and entire costume to school. [girls to bring your own lipsticks as well]

4. Try not to bring too much valuables. There is no holding area there for us. All will be left in school. There's a bus taking us to and fro the airport.

5. The bus will leave at 4.30pm SHARP. so no one is to take their time.

6. Please note that I'll need everyone to be on their most professional behaviour. Which means no strolling, yelling, getting overly excited, gawking and insanely loud and ringing laughter (something which i know many are capable of.) 7. There is no chance to eat there. I know it's insane, but i suggest everyone bring a bun, and also bring money. I'll get Ms Low to buy dinner for us and then we'll eat before we board the bus. Call it late lunch/early dinner. pft

8. Here are the performance areas and timings:

6.30pm: Terminal 1 Departure Hall East (next to Check-In Row 10)
7.30pm: Terminal 2 Departure Hall North (next to Check-In Row 1)
8.30pm: Terminal 1 Departure Transit West Waterfall (next to King Power Fashion Wear)
9.30pm: Terminal 2 Departure Transit Central Even Area (Behind Lee Hwa Diamond Gallery)

As you can see, 2 out of the 4 areas are open to public so feel free to ask family and friends down to watch. Hope the seniors can drop by! :D

For the benefit of seniors, here's a list of our carolling dates! :)

This year ajchoir has mainly 2 stints one at Changi Airport and another at The Four Seasons Hotel. The J2s have already been sent an email inviting them to partake in these sessions with us. Very soon, email invites will be sent to our alumni (or at least to those that we can contact). However, due to contract issues, we cannot have too large a number for carolling at Changi Airport. Therefore we are opening it first to our J2s. If there is lukewarm response and we can afford to have more seniors come down, we'll be more than happy to open it to the alumni. :D

For now, we need the J2s to confirm with us by the 23rd Nov Thurs (preferbly before 6pm) your attendance for the sessions be it both or either one. Very soon the SL's will be contacting you if they haven't already. If you're going please give them your NRIC and contact number for screening purposes (once again it's what the airport needs, not because your juniors are a bunch of stalkers. XP) Thanks!

Hope everyone can understand and sorry for the trouble. It's not that we're being picky but it's what we need to adhere to.

18th Dec ( Mon) 7pm-9.45pm
21st Dec (Thur) 7pm - 9.45pm

If we have any "revision" sessions for carolling, I'll let all those going know so that you guys can join us! For now our practices are on mon & thurs in ajchoir rm from about 2pm. [Just in case you guys want to drop by since i know many have been enquiring. haha]
